Anthony Brownbill is a New York City artist who works primarily from observation reflecting local landscapes, cityscapes, interiors, still lives and figurative compositions. Through patient observation, a sort of passive attention, Brownbill searches and waits for that elusive spatial arrangement to click in: A poetic timelessness.
The works on paper and canvas are metaphoric. Color, structure and openness convey the essence of mood, experiences and interpretation of the visual world.
Brownbill, a native of St. Kitts, started painting on the island of St. Maarten in 1987. He moved to New York City in 1994 where he studied at the New York Studio School. There he immersed himself in the art of looking; drawing and painting for the next four years.
