Gatekeeper is a group show that explores ideas of access, and how the spaces we inhabit enforce or challenge the roles of gender, race, and economic inequalities within societies. Both public and private spaces can limit, prevent or maintain access to the various echelons within a society. We are inspired by the German philosopher Heidegger’s discourse on the relationship between building, dwelling, and human identity. Heidegger wrote, “To be a human being means to be on the earth as a mortal. It means to dwell.”
