William Holman Gallery is pleased to announce our New Year's Drawings Show, up from January 4 to February 3, 2013, which includes works on paper, vellum and mirror. The fourth monthly exhibition since the gallery opened its doors this past autumn, the New Year's show features a variety of media and sizes, reflecting a broad range of drawing techniques.
We will exhibit works by Gallery Artists Peter Bonner, Anthony Brownbill, John Cunningham, Michael J. Davis, Nicolette Jelen, Tom Judd, Massimo Lippi, Sally Tittmann and Robert Seyffert. For this exhibition we are pleased to include work by two artists new to the Gallery's program, Rick Shaefer and Steve Pauley. In addition, the show will feature watercolors from the estate of Olin Dows (1906 - 1981).
From an intimate sepia interior measuring just 10 x 7 inches to a monumental 8 x 12 foot triptych in charcoal on vellum, the exhibition focuses on connoisseurship and distinctive execution. Challenging the boundaries of technique, we have included two unique works by Nicolette Jelen - in which liquid silver nitrate is used to create 'drawn' mirrors. By pouring silver on to glass surfaces and drawing through the fresh silver with a pointed wooden stylus, Jelen achieves an innovative aesthetic effect, the reverse of 'silver point' drawing on paper. Steven Pauley will also present his beautiful engravings on stone.
